About the Course

I am an adult developmental psychologist by training and a career counselor by trade, currently the Director of the Gordon Career Center at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. In this course, I draw from my decades of experience as well as research from the fields of psychology, organizational behavior, and sociology to help you understand best practices for making career decisions. This content will help you develop the tools you need to make the right choices for you, from deciding an area of study to exploring potential lines of work to pursue—and knowing when to pivot at any time in your career....

Perhaps because I am not a recent graduate, but someone wanting to discover a totally new direction later in life, I found a lot of this content was familiar. I know myself quite well. That's not the issue. There was lot of talk about how complex it is to get to know what really motivates you and prepare or find another life path/career. I wanted more definite direction, and more challenging content. Also, even though I completed the assignments here without upgrading, it is not as motivating without the feedback. As the course is primarily for self-development, and the assignments reviewed by peers, I am not sure why the Honors content is not offered without paying for an upgrade. The "assignments" that I was able to complete, accepted a one sentence reply. I think multiple choice questions might have been a better way to become more engaged with the content, as it was easy to gloss over the content. If I had found the course more useful, I might have paid to complete it.

It is an important and universally applicable course. It deals with some conceptual (theoretical) aspects of great importance. Would need a stronger practical orientation to be directly applied by many.
